Italy

Milan · Rome · Turin

Italian moves from Battersea are corporate-urban. Milan finance and fashion is the dominant destination — Porta Nuova, Brera, Citylife. Rome international-diplomatic comes next — embassy postings, the Trastevere or Parioli posting flat, EU and UN agency moves. Then Turin and Bologna for the tech and corporate corridor.

PIRELLI MILAN · PORTA NUOVA

The Italian lakes family-lifestyle move is Putney territory; the rural-Tuscany retirement is Sevenoaks; the southern-Italy community return is Romford. Battersea → Italy stays urban, corporate, and apartment-to-apartment. Honest sister-site referrals if your move sits outside that.

Operationally Italy is the country where the destination access is most variable. Milan central addresses are typically older buildings with narrow stairs; Rome Centro Storico and Trastevere addresses similarly require care. We brief the destination crew on the access at quote stage.

The Battersea → Italy pattern

Three urban-corporate moves we run.

Each pattern is a real shape — survey-tested timing, operationally-tested access at both ends.

01 / 03

Milan corporate finance and fashion-corridor relocations

Milan is the most common Italian destination for Battersea customers — Porta Nuova for fund-management and tech, Brera for design and fashion-house, Citylife for the newer corporate cluster. The destination property is typically a centre-Milan apartment with narrow-stair access; the move plan documents the destination service-lift booking where the building has one, or the manual carry-up sequence where it does not.

02 / 03

Rome international-diplomatic and EU-agency moves

Rome diplomatic and international-agency postings are a steady Battersea pattern — Parioli, Aventino, Centro Storico, and the EUR business district. Embassy and EU-agency moves often have a relocation package that includes the property and visa side; we handle the household. The destination access in Rome can be operationally complex (cobbled access, narrow lifts in older buildings) and the move plan reflects this.

03 / 03

Turin and Bologna corporate-tech moves

Turin's Piedmont corporate corridor (Stellantis, banking, the polytechnic-tech corridor) and Bologna's university-and-pharma corridor are the third Italian destination pattern. The move scope is typically apartment-to-apartment urban, often partial-consolidation, and the destination access on both is more service-lift-friendly than Milan or Rome centre.

Housing contexts we work with

Which Battersea housing types move to Italy.

New-build apartment

Battersea Reach, Nine Elms tower residences, Embassy Gardens, and the newer SW8 / SW11 apartment stock. Organised service-bay, structured lift coordination, contemporary logistics. Operational shape that matches new-build destination addresses (Paris La Défense, Milan Porta Nuova, Lisbon Parque das Nações).

Power Station development

Battersea Power Station residences specifically — Switch House East and West, the Boiler House, the broader Power Station estate. Distinctive operational shape: estate-managed delivery bays, timed lift windows, concierge coordination, security-cleared crew briefing. The signature SW11 move shape.

Period mansion flat

Prince of Wales Drive, Albert Bridge Road, the Embankment-facing Edwardian mansion-flat stock, and the Chelsea-edge Battersea corridor. Third to fifth-floor without lifts, original staircases, period door-frames. Operational shape that pairs with comparable Paris Haussmann, Milan period apartment, and central Madrid period stock.

Customs and paperwork

How the Italy customs side works.

  • ToR relief: standard EU framework. We file the UK-side ToR1 and the Italian Agenzia delle Dogane declaration.
  • Codice fiscale (Italian tax code) is required on the Italian declaration — obtained through the Italian consulate in London or through a destination-side commercialista before the consignment lands.
  • For diplomatic and EU-agency moves: sometimes the diplomatic-status documentation streamlines customs further. We coordinate with the embassy or agency mobility office where this applies.
  • High-value art or instruments: pieces over 70 years old or by listed Italian artists may require export licences. We flag this at survey and refer to a specialist where applicable.

Italy testimonials

From Battersea households who made the move.

Milan Porta Nuova is operationally one of the cleaner urban-corporate destinations, but the Battersea Albert Bridge end was the harder side — Edwardian mansion-flat with narrow staircase, vintage furniture our parents passed down, and the move had to fit around a single working week. The Battersea crew worked the access with care. Considered move, contemporary tone — exactly what we wanted.

The Tanaka-Whitfield household

Fund-management professional, partner working remotely in tech

Albert Bridge corridor, SW11 → Milan — Porta Nuova

Diplomatic move with FCO mobility-office coordination on the visa and property side. The Battersea team handled the household side and worked alongside the mobility office without confusion of scope. Parioli destination access is older-building and the move plan was specific about the service-lift booking window. Professional, structured, contemporary.

Frequent Italy questions

Things that come up before a Italy move.

We are moving to Milan Brera and our destination building has no service lift. Implications?

Survey documents the narrow-stair access in detail — the inventory items that need disassembly, the protective wrapping that has to happen at load-out rather than destination, the crew sizing. Brera and the older central Milan addresses are operationally similar to the older Battersea Rise period-stock moves we do regularly. We have the operational habit around this.

Our move is part of a Foreign Office diplomatic posting. Anything different?

The household-move side runs the same. Diplomatic-pouch and embassy-shipment protocols sit with the FCO and the embassy mobility office, not with us. We coordinate with the mobility office where the household and the diplomatic shipments need to be split; we handle the standard household consignment.

We need the move timed to the Italian school year. Workable?

Yes — Italian school year (settembre) is the most common Battersea → Italy family-move timing constraint. Load-out late July or August, customs clearance through August, destination delivery in time for the start of term. Documented in the written quote.

Our Battersea Power Station flat has heritage-status furniture from the inherited family side. Special handling?

Itemised separately at survey, packed in protective crating, declared at higher cover than standard transit insurance. For Italian-export the cultural-property side rarely affects UK-side outbound (those rules sit with the destination country on inbound), but if the items are then to be re-imported back to the UK in the future, document the ownership trail now. We flag this at survey.
